For SEP, the five-step process has been expanded somewhat, and a template has been drafted to help you plan out a project using the recommended phases of the SEP. You might find it helpful to refer to this template as you plan your first few projects. This template operates at a macro level for the project. Figure 10.1 on the following page shows the top level of the project template contents.

As you can see, the eight major phases of SEP are identified, along with the essential steps. When using this template, the core team should add additional tasks to each section as appropriate. For large projects, each phase can be broken into subprojects. The advantage of using SEP is that regardless of the project undertaken, each of these areas needs to be addressed. This method provides standardization and makes the job of the SPMO and the Project Manager much easier.
