Voice-over-IP (VoIP) –
A term that refers to a system for transmitting telephone calls over data networks, including the Internet. VoIP technology provides the ability to carry packetized voice over an IP-based network (e.g. the Internet) with POTS-like (Plain Old Telephone Service) functionality, reliability and voice quality.
VPN (Virtual Private Network) –
A secure, encrypted connection between two points across the Internet. It can act as an intranet or extranet, but uses the Internet as the networking connection. Most VPNs are built and run by Internet service providers.
