Foreign trade
Yunnan's import and export value totalled US$1.81 billion in 2000, up by 9.2 per cent over US$1.66 billion in 1999.
Total export value was US$1.12 billion, up by 13.6 per cent over US$1.03 billion in 1999. It was equivalent to 4.99 per cent and 0.47 per cent of the provincial GDP and the total export value of the nation respectively. Export of primary products amounted to US$219.75 million and for manufactured products US$955.41, accounting for 18.7 per cent and 81.3 per cent respectively of total export value.
Export commodities were sold to 102 countries and regions . Myanmar, on Yunnan's border took the highest value of Yunnan's exports, followed by Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam and the USA. However, the top five markets of the province took a smaller share of the total in 2000 than in 1999 (see Table 7.25.2).

In 2000, import value totalled US$637.67 million, up by 2 per cent over US$625.25 million in 1999. Import of primary manufactured commodities reached US$367.94 million and US$269.73 million, accounting for 57.7 per cent and 42.3 per cent of the total import value respectively.
Hong Kong was the biggest supplier of Yunnan's imports with 21.8 per cent of the province's total import. Australia took 17.04 per cent of Yunnan's import, ranking second, followed by Myanmar, Canada and Germany (see Table 7.25.3).
