The original VS-880 did not have a way of putting the final touches on your recordings. Coincidentally, neither did the first VS-1680. This process is referred to as mastering your song. This was subsequently addressed in the form of an operating system update for the VS-1680. This was further expanded upon with the creation of the VS-1880. With the VS-1680 operating system update, you could essentially choose from a list of pre-configured mastering templates to add to your final mix. These templates were created for different styles of music and were labeled that way. They have names such as acoustic, dance , jingle, and mixdown . After you apply a mastering effect to your mix, you can then tweak the effect to custom fit your song. Many times you can use a mastering effect preset as is. Each mastering room effect's label begins with the letters MTK. That stands for Mastering Tool Kit. So each MTK is a chain of powerful signal processors that can be tweaked until your heart's content. The mastering room was a great add-on feature to the VS-1680. It allows your final mix to be run through a chain of signal processors just like in a real mastering house. It gives you the power to combine processors such as enhancers , EQ, limiters, compressors, and expanders into one stereo effects patch. If you spend some time getting to know how each processor works, you can accomplish some astonishing results using the MTK. |
