On a traditional mixing board, you usually have to use two faders to control a left and right stereo signal. If you want to make adjustments to the signal (such as EQ or effects changes), you have to change the settings on both channels. With channel link, you can make changes to both channels simultaneously . Channel Link pairs up adjacent, odd- and even-numbered channels, as shown in Figure 11.2. The settings of the odd-numbered channels will be the same as the settings of the adjacent, even-numbered channels.

Linked Channels on the VS-1824

The VS-1824 does not have any linked channels by default.


Unlinking the Defaulted Linked Channels

The defaulted linked channels can be unlinked at any time.

1.
Go to the channel edit screen of a linked channel and use your cursor keys to select Link.

2.
Use the jogwheel to change the setting to Off.

When the defaulted linked channels are unlinked, you will have to use the SHIFT button to get to the channel edit screen for the adjacent, even-numbered channels.

Adjusting the Volume Levels of Linked Channels

With Channel Link on, the overall volume balance of each channel is preserved. The odd-numbered fader now controls the overall volume for both channels. The even-numbered fader doesn't do anything. Using the following steps, you can change the volume balance of the two faders at any time, as shown in Figure 11.3.

Go to the channel edit screen of the linked channels you want to edit.

2.
Press F5 (Fader). If you don't see "Fader" above F5, press PAGE until you do.

3.
Press ENTER or F6 (PRM.V). The values of each fader appear in the display.

4.
Use the cursor keys to select each fader value and use the jogwheel to adjust the setting.

5.
Press PLAY/DISPLAY to exit.

Adjusting the Panning of Linked Channels

With Channel Link on, you can adjust the linked channel's overall stereo image while preserving their pan position in relation to each other, as shown in Figure 11.4. Use the following steps to adjust the pan position for the linked channels.

Go to the channel edit screen of the linked channels you want to edit.

7.
Press F1 (Mix). If you don't see "Mix" above F1, press PAGE until you do.

8.
Press ENTER or F6 (PRM.V). The values of each fader appear in the display.

9.
Use the cursor keys to select each pan value, and use the jogwheel to adjust the setting.

10.
Press PLAY/DISPLAY to exit.

Adjusting Channel Link Pan Settings While Sound Is Playing

You may notice "blips" in the sound while adjusting the pan when the sound is playing. This is perfectly normal and is not a malfunction. If you find this annoying, adjust the pan when the sound is not playing.
