Chapter SIX. Automating Repetitive Tasks

Copy and Paste are lovely things, and years ago they were practically the only way to reuse elements when building a Web site. But back in 1998, a feature was introduced into GoLive (at that time called GoLive CyberStudio 3) that allowed you to save part of a page as a component and then reuse it on other pages. The coolest thing about a component was that if you changed the original component, all the pages where it was used were automatically updated to reflect the change.

Well, that was only the beginning. Since then, every release of GoLive has added new features to help you quickly build and maintain Web sites and to automate time-consuming repetitive tasks.

In this chapter, we concentrate on four features that we rely on daily to automate our design process: snippets, components, stationery, and page templates, all of which are neatly tucked into the Library palette and some of which are accessible via the New dialog box. (Although Smart Objects are stored in the Library palette, too, they are covered in Chapter Seven.) We also discuss the process for checking the spelling on your pages prior to making it live for the world to see.
