TIP 116: Creating CSS Comments and Folders

When you create complex CSS files, you'll want to organize the rules in a way that makes the rules easy to remember, manage, and share with others. The advanced comments and folders options in the CSS Editor make these challenges a breeze (Figure 116).

Dragging to Resort Statements

To change the order of CSS rules and move rules in and out of folders, just select the rules and drag them into their new location in the list on the left of the CSS Editor window.

Create a comment in your CSS source code to leave yourself a reminder, document your work, or communicate style standards to coworkers. Just click the Create Comment button on the right side or top of the CSS Editor. Type the text of your comment in the right side of the window and you're done. You can go back to edit or delete your comments at any time.

You can also create folders to organize complex style sheets. Folders in the GoLive CSS Editor are really just comments in the source code that look like folders in the list of CSS definitions, so there's nothing wrong with the code and it's a really nice editing convenience. Create a new folder by clicking the New Folder icon on the right or top of the CSS Editor. Remember that the order of the folders does affect the cascade of the CSS.
