Value Index:
An index on text and attribute values (one or a combination thereof) perhaps with a filter applied to those values, reducing the set of values in the index.
Variable:
A programming term for an empty memory slot that can be set to a specific value for subsequent use at a later time, somewhere else in the program. Variables can be used to pass values on, either changed or unchanged, to other parts of application coding.
VBScript:
A client-side scripting language similar in function to JavaScript. ASP uses a server-oriented version of VBScript.
Very Large Database:
Very large databases (VLDB) are presently in the terabyte range. Ten years ago a VLDB might have been a few hundred gigabytes.
