When you open a new song, you can set the project properties.
Project properties include Tempo, Time (time signature), and Key.
The default time signature is 4/4, and the default tempo is 120.
There are 12 different keys to choose from for a project. The default is C.
You can change a project tempo by clicking the Tempo portion of the Time Display and adjusting the Tempo slider.
You can record a single-take Software Instrument region or a multipass Software Instrument region.
Multipass recording requires using a cycle region to repeat the region you are recording over and over.
The metronome clicks once for each beat in a measure and can be used during playback or recording.
There are three ways to record Software Instrument regions in GarageBand: with the onscreen keyboard, through Musical Typing, or using an external MIDI keyboard.
You can loop a recorded region by clicking and dragging the upper-right corner of the region.
You can resize a recorded region by clicking and dragging either of the lower corners of the region.
The Track Editor can be used to move, delete, duplicate, or resize notes within a region.
The Track Editor can also be used to transpose an entire region, which changes the key of the region.
