You can open the Timeline tab in the Timing pane by pressing Cmd-7.
The Timeline tab includes a Timeline Layer list that works the same as the Layer list on the Layers tab. It also includes a Timeline, a timecode ruler, and a Current Frame field.
You can enable and disable filters and behaviors in the Timeline Layer list, and also show and hide filters, behaviors, and other elements.
Motion provides three tools for zooming into and out of the Timeline: the Zoom slider, the Zoom/Scroll control, and the Zoom to Fit button (which fits the entire play range into the Timeline window).
The Timeline consists of tracks for each layer, object, behavior, and filter. You can collapse a layer by clicking its disclosure triangle. The number of objects that a layer contains is listed on a collapsed layer in the Timeline.
If you drag multiple files to the Timeline, you can import them as a composite (one over the other) or sequentially (one after the other).
Motion provides three options for importing media into the Timeline. You choose the import option from the drop menu that appears when you drag a file to the Timeline. The drop menu options are Composite, Insert, and Overwrite.
You can use markers to align clips in the Timeline. You can set markers in the Timeline at the playhead position by pressing Shift-M. You can name and colorize markers in the Edit Marker window.
You can move a clip to the playhead by pressing the bracket keys. Pressing Shift-[ (left bracket) moves the In point of the selected clip to the playhead position. Pressing Shift-] (right bracket) moves the Out point of the selected clip to the playhead position.
Motion includes premade templates that are organized in the Template Browser. The premade templates are royalty free, and you can modify them with your own media.
Templates include generic titles and objects that you can replace with your own text and media.
