Creating a Freeze Frame Image

Most of the "effect" of the Beam Me Up Effect is applied to a still image which we will pull from the transporterman.avi clip on the Timeline using the Freeze Frame function in Premiere Elements. We'll place a background beneath the still image and the transporter beam above it to create the effect of someone "beaming in" from another dimension.

Adding a Still Image to the Project

With the Current Time Indicator (CTI) at the beginning of the Video 1 track, click the Freeze Frame button on the Monitor panel.

Tip

To send the CTI to the first frame of the Timeline, press the Home key on your keyboard.

Click the Insert in Movie button on the Freeze Frame dialog box.

Tip

The default for the freeze frame image is 5 seconds. If you have set this to be other than 5 seconds, reset it back to 5 seconds now.

Did You Know?

You can edit an image in Photoshop Elements. Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements are tightly woven together, which makes it easy to work with still images that are a part of a Premiere Elements project. One way that the two programs are connected is when you create a freeze frame image. At that time, you are given the option, through the Edit in Photoshop Elements after inserting check box, to open Photoshop Elements and edit the image you just created. Any changes you make to the image in Photoshop Elements are reflected immediately in Premiere Elements as soon as you save your work.
