Inserting the Background Clip onto the Timeline

The actor who will be beamed into the scene needs a scene to be beamed into. We've shot the background of the same sceneusing a tripod of course!and we'll use that background. When we fade the actor in (using the Opacity settings over time), since the actor is the only thing different in this scene and the background scene, he'll appear to fade in, even though actually the entire clip is gradually fading in, not just the actor.

Add the transporterman.avi Clip to the Timeline

The background clip needs to be behind (or in video editing terms, "below") the still image. Select the still image on the Video 1 track and drag it up to the Video 2 track. Be sure that the front of the clip lines up with the start of the track.

Select the transporterbackground.avi clip in the Media panel.

Drag the transporterbackground.avi clip to the Timeline and drop it on the Video 1 track so that the head (front) of the clip is at the beginning of the track.
