Starting Movie Maker and Importing the Clip

You can use any video clip at all and transform it into an "aged film clip." However, what works especially well is footage taken at a country fair, an historical reenactment, or places such as Williamsburg, Plymouth Plantation, Monticello, or other historical settingseven at an antique car show. For this project, we've supplied you with a short clip from a reenactment of life in the mid-1800s, called 1850.avi. In this task, we'll "creatively borrow" one of Movie Maker's video effects to add scratches and dust to our clip.

Start Movie Maker and Bring in the Video Clip

To start Movie Maker, click the Windows Start button and then click All Programs.

Choose Accessories, Windows Movie Maker (in come cases, Movie Maker may be found at Accessories, Entertainment, Windows Movie Maker).

Important

It's possible that your copy of Movie Maker may be located elsewhere on your All Programs list.

From Movie Maker's Capture Video task list, select the Import video task.

Timesaver

If the Movie Tasks menu isn't currently displayed, click the Tasks button on the toolbar to display it.

Use the Import File dialog box and navigate to the DVD supplied with this book.

Navigate to the Extras folder, then to the Media folder, and finally to the Video folder.

Select the 1850.avi clip and click Import.

Drag and drop the clip onto the storyboard.

Tip

If the Storyboard view isn't displayed, click the Show Storyboard button.
