Summary
As can be seen from WinCap, DirectShow provides a very flexible framework for on-the-fly creation of filter graphs that can both record streams from DV camcorders and write streams to them. Once the proper interfaces have been created, sending control signals to these external devices is as easy as a single line of code. Using timecode, it s possible to queue a tape to a particular point, either for capture or recording purposes. Everything in this chapter can be repurposed for your own uses in your own projects and could form the foundation for a powerful video editing tool, such as Microsoft Windows Movie Maker 2 or Adobe Premiere.
Now we ll move on to the other half of WinCap, which provides a platform for working with TV tuners. They re more complicated but also more rewarding. In the next chapter, you ll learn what makes a personal video recorder tick.
