Preparing the Elements

A few of the elements need to be combined before they can be used in the MultiPlane node. To start, the woman and car_mask clips will be combined with a SwitchMatte node.

SwitchMatte copies a channel from the second image into the matte channel of the first image.

1.

Highlight the woman clip and select a SwitchMatte node from the Layer tab.

2.

Connect car_mask to the second input of SwitchMatte1.

When we get around to using the MultiPlane node, this element will allow you to place the lasers behind the car. The next element that needs isolating is the woman clip, so that the lasers can be positioned behind her as well. The RotoShape exercise you completed from Lesson 4 will come in handy right about now. If you completed Lesson 4 and rendered the woman_roto clip, you may load it instead of the version located in the Lesson11 folder.

3.

Select the woman clip again, and Shift-click the SwitchMatte node in the Layer tab to create a new branch.

4.

Connect the output of woman_roto to the second input of SwitchMatte2.
