The Files panel can be used to access and work with files that are located outside of your site's root folder. At times, you might need to access files such as source files for graphics or page layouts that are not usually included in root folders.
Any folder that is designated as the root folder for a Dreamweaver-defined site will be green. All other folders will be blue (Macintosh) or yellow (Windows). Using the Files panel to drag and drop files between site folders and your computer or desktop creates copies of the files in the new location. If you drag and drop files inside a site folder, those files are moved to the new location. Note If you need to drag and drop files to or from a site folder and the Computer (Macintosh) or Desktop (Windows), you must do so within the Dreamweaver Files panel or in the Finder (Macintosh), in My Computer (Windows), or in Windows Explorer File Manager (Windows). You cannot drag items out of the Files panel into folders in the Finder (Macintosh), in My Computer (Windows), or in Windows Explorer File Manager (Windows), or vice-versa. You can open files in other programs by double-clicking them. Dreamweaver uses the program that it associates with the file you chose to open it. Note You can change the associated programs by choosing Edit > Preferences and selecting File Types/Editors from the category list. Select, add, or delete file extensions in the extensions list; use the editors list to define which programs to use when opening files with the selected extensions. |
