explore effects p. 62

  • Premiere Elements has a great effect called ShadowHighlight that can help fix video shot with a backlight (like a window or spotlight).

  • As you probably guessed, we barely scratched the surface of Premiere Elements' Effect Capabilities. There are many, many other effects which you apply and configure just like those you worked with in this chapter.

  • The best approach for applying artistic effects is to match the effects (or lack of effects) with the movie or scene. For example, I apply lots of effects to the Meeting and Greeting scene in this movie, which is backed by some pretty wild music, to create a music video-like effect. Beyond that one scene, I speed up one clip to double speed, and that's it for artistic effects.

add motion to images p. 74

  • Premiere Elements has some presets that can add motion to images in the Vertical Image Pans and Vertical Image Zooms folders in the Presets folder. Though easy to apply (just click and drag), they never quite give me the result I really want. That's why it's better to learn how to create them yourself.

  • You can apply multiple key-frames to a single image for more complicated moving effects, and apply keyframes to most Premiere Elements effects. This adds tremendous design flexibility to the program.
