96 Controlling Button Behavior in Motion Menus

#96 Controlling Button Behavior in Motion Menus

With some motion menus, especially those with animated buttons, you may wish to deactivate the buttons until the animation finishes playing. To accomplish this, set a Loop Point for the video at the time the buttons should become active. The first time the viewer plays the menu, Encore DVD will deactivate the buttons until the Loop Point. During subsequent replays of the video, Encore will play the video after the Loop Point and keep the buttons active.

Here's where and how to set the Loop Point.

Loop Point Recurrence

Each time the viewer plays the DVD, the cycle starts again, and the viewer must wait for the Loop Point before clicking any buttons. While this is probably acceptable for entertainment DVDs (if the cycle duration is short enough), waiting for the Loop Point may be irritating for some business or educational customers. For these customers, remember that just because you can loop your animation doesn't mean you should.

1.

In the Project panel, click the Menu to make it active.

2.

In the Menu Properties panel, set the Loop Point at the point you want the buttons to become active (Figure 96).

3.

From the Loop # drop-down menu, set the desired number of times for the menu to loop.
