OPEN SHORTEST PATH FIRST (OSPF)

  1. Understand the advantages of a link-state protocol such as OSPF over a limited distance vector protocol such as RIPv1 in a large internetwork.

  2. Be aware of the key terminology related to OSPF operations and the key contents of the Hello packet and OSPF packet header.

  3. Be aware of the process that OSPF uses to discover neighbors via the Hello protocol.

  4. Understand how OSPF generates a topology database by using the SPF algorithm to select the optimal routes and inject them into the routing table.

  5. Be knowledgeable of the OSPF route maintenance process when a change occurs in the topology.

  6. Be proficient at configuring a Cisco router in a single-area OSPF network in both a broadcast and non-broadcast scenario. Be cognizant of the command used to verify OSPF operations in a single area as well.

  7. Be able to describe the terminology involved with connecting multiple OSPF areas. Be able to explain the contrasts between the different types of OSPF areas, routers, and link-state advertisements.

  8. Understand how OSPF provides support for VLSM and route summarization in multiple areas.

  9. Be prepared to describe a multiple-area NBMA environment and various real-world scenarios.

  10. Understand the methods for configuring and verifying a multi-area OSPF environment.
