Chapter Summary

In this chapter we discussed the administration features of Windows Server 2003. We started with a discussion of the remote management capabilities of Windows Server 2003, using the Computer Management MMC, which we have used briefly in previous chapters.

Next we discussed the Remote Desktop for Administration feature. This feature, first introduced as an optional feature in Windows 2000 Server, has been improved and made a default feature in Windows Server 2003.

An additional, but not commonly used feature for administration is the Remote Assistance feature. This allows you to selectively grant access to your server console, typically in tech support situations.

That was followed by an overview of software licensing, a commonly overlooked but very important topic.
