Chapter 7. Building a .Mac HomePage

 <  Day Day Up  >

Aside from the Mac.com email account and the iDisk, one of the best services a .Mac membership offers is the ability to create your own web site using .Mac's HomePage tools. The HomePage tools use Apple's own technology, WebObjects, which offers a set of page templates and styles that you can select to quickly and easily create a web site.

When you build a .Mac HomePage, your web site can be accessed by going to http://homepage.mac.com/ membername . All of the information for your HomePage is stored in the Sites directory on your iDisk, but the HomePage tools require some files to exist in other directories as well. In such instances, those items will be discussed in this chapter.

Rather than showing you how to build each possible page and/or combination of pages, this chapter shows you how to build a simple, four-page web site containing a main page, a photo album, a movie page, and a file-sharing page. You'll also learn how to use the HomePage tools with other applications such as iPhoto and iMovie, as well as learn how to manage your .Mac HomePage. As with the other chapters in this book, you'll also learn about what goes on behind the scenes of your .Mac Home-Page, and how to personalize it with a favicon.
