5.8 Uncovering Corporate Risk

This class of risks is associated with potential impact on the overall environment and associated processes as a result of your project. I have separated them from the other two classes because in the process of researching them you will probably get drawn into discussions with operations, security, or standards police who otherwise are unknown to you or not heretofore involved in your project. As project manager, you are likely unaware of, or at least unenlightened, in the technical, operational, or political issues revolving around these types of risks. The questions in Exhibit 5 lay the groundwork for discovering potential corporate risk.

What if network freezes or change control issues occur?
What if required tools (e.g., virus scanners) crash new applications?
What if our rollout creates security holes (e.g., open ports on servers)?
What if our rollout introduces problems in the network?
What if our rollout creates conflicts on the desktop?
