Archive Your Project

Archiving a project bundles all of the project assets together, making it easy and convenient to store complete projects or move them to another computer. You may need to move a project to a computer that has a SuperDrive so you can burn a disc, or take it to someone else's Mac so she can work on the project. When you archive your project, it's saved as an iDVD project (.dvdproj) that can be opened later with iDVD.

To archive an iDVD project

1.

From the File menu, choose "Archive Project."

2.

In the Archive Project dialog sheet that drops down (shown below), type a name for the project and choose a location in which to save the archived file. iDVD adds "Archived" to the file name.

An archived project icon looks like this.

3.

If you've used custom themes or want to use your theme in future versions of iDVD, click the box to "Include themes" to archive the themes with the project. You can uncheck this checkbox if you've used standard iDVD themes.

4.

Click the "Include encoded files" checkbox to avoid having to re--encode project files after they're moved to another location. If you're more interested in archiving speed and economizing hard disk space, uncheck this option.

5.

Click the "Save" button.

Once your project is completely finished, you can choose to save it as a disc image (.img), a format that compresses the DVD-encoded files into a single file that's convenient for storage or transport. The following page explains how to save as a disc image.
