How to Assign a Catalog to a Device

When a catalog is assigned to a device, either directly or indirectly, ZENworks installs the RPM bundles in the catalog to that device.

A catalog that is newly assigned to a device is installed when the next bundle refresh cycle occurs. This can happen at boot time or based on the bundle refresh setting in the managed device's zone.

You can follow a couple of methods to assign a bundle to a device. One method is as follows:

1.

Open the ZENworks Control Center.

2.

Click on Devices on the menu at the top of the screen.

3.

Browse within the Devices folder to the folder where the specific device is located.

4.

Select the specific device by clicking on the check box in the list next to the device. This activates the rest of the Device menu.

5.

Select the Action menu item to open the drop-down list and select Assign Catalog. This launches the Assign Catalog Wizard. See Figure 8.5.

6.

Click Next to move to step 2 of the wizard to set Special Flags. See Figure 8.6.

During this step you see two options:

  • Remove Conflicting Packages This option enables you to specify whether conflicting packages should be overwritten.

  • Attempt a Dry Run Checking this option simulates the installation to test to see whether there will be any issues or conflicts. The results of the dry run are stored in the log file.

7.

Press Back to return to a previous page to make changes, press Cancel to terminate the wizard, or press the Finish button to complete the wizard.

Another method to assign a catalog is the following:

1.

Open the ZENworks Control Center.

2.

Click on Bundles on the menu at the top of the screen.

3.

Select the specific catalog by clicking on the check box in the list next to the catalog you want to assign. This activates the rest of the Bundles menu.

4.

Select the Action menu item to open the drop-down list and select Assign Catalog. This launches the Assign Catalog Wizard.

You can also assign a catalog by going directly to the device or device group.
