One of the lesser-known drawing tools works similarly to the polar coordinate system, but requires less input from the user . This is called the Direct Distance Option . Learn this one to amaze and confound older CAD operators.
Simply put, this is how it works. At the Specify next point or [Undo] prompt, you enter a distance at the keyboard, move the crosshairs in the direction you want the line to go, and then hit enter (or pick the right mouse button then select Enter ). Let me demonstrate .
Start a new drawing from scratch.
Begin to draw a line from point 2,2.
At the Specify next point or [Undo]: prompt, type 3 . Do not hit enter yet.
Toggle Ortho On and move your crosshairs to the right.
Hit enter. Notice that AutoCAD has drawn a line 3 units in the direction you moved the crosshairs!
The marvels never cease !
