Animating Your Text

I'm not talking about bringing each letter to life and having them dance around onscreen to swing music. That's left for 3D animators (see Figure 9.15). What I'm talking about is moving your text around on the screen and flying it in from different positions. Animating text in Premiere works the same way as adding motion to video clips. Moving text is a great effect for opening titles, key words during a motivational video, and descriptions during a training video.

To add motion to your text, do the following:

  1. Edit the text into any video track.

  2. Click the clip to select it.

  3. Select Clip > Video.

  4. Select Motion from the pop-up menu, or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl-Y (Windows) or Command-Y (Macintosh).

  5. Adjust the variable in the Motion Settings window to control the speed, rotation, and overall direction of your text's movement.
