Examining Your Hard Disk

Before we finish our quick spin around the desktop, let's examine the My Computer folder and see what's on your hard disk. Follow these steps:

1.	Click the Start button to display the Start menu.
2.	Select My Computer to open the My Computer folder, shown in Figure 4.10. Figure 4.10. The contents of your My Computer folder.
3.	Hover your cursor over your local hard disk drivetypically labeled drive C.
4.	Information about your hard disk is displayed in the Details panel of the activity pane, and basic operations are displayed in the System Tasks panel.
5.	Position your cursor over the hard disk icon, and click your right mouse button (in other words, right-click the icon).
6.	This displays a pop-up menu. Select Properties from this menu.
7.	When the Properties dialog box appears, select the General tab. As you can see in Figure 4.11, this tab displays a pie chart that represents how much of your hard disk is currently used and how much free space is available. Figure 4.11. Viewing interesting information about your hard disk.
8.	Click OK to close the dialog box.
