TAPI allows you to develop applications that provide telephony services to users of the Microsoft Windows environment.
The Telephony API and SPI give you a consistent set of tools for creating Windows-based telephony applications.
TAPI provides:
These features can include automatic telephone dialing, voice-mail sorting, collaborative computing over telephone lines, and so on.
With drag and drop, users can send files from a local disk to a remote computer. They can also transmit documents as files, facsimiles, or electronic mail. With integrated service digital network (ISDN) connections, users can send data to recipients while making a voice call to that same person.
Users can identify an inbound call while on another line without putting anyone on hold. The user can then send the second caller a prerecorded personalized message, or route the inbound call directly to voice-mail.
