Microsoft Host Integration Server 2000

Microsoft Host Integration Server 2000 is one of the Microsoft .NET Enterprise Server products. An overview of Host Integration Server 2000 is located in the "Overview of .NET Enterprise Servers" chapter in Part One of this book.

Host Integration Server 2000 can be installed on computers running the following operating systems:

• All Windows 2000 Server and Windows NT 4.0 Server variations. (Windows NT 4.0 Server must have Service Pack 6a installed).
• The MSMQ-MQSeries Bridge requires Windows 2000 Server or Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition.
• Installing Host Integration Server 2000 server on a Windows NT Workstation or Windows 2000 Professional is supported only for development use - production deployment requires installation on a Windows NT Server or Windows 2000 (Advanced/DataCenter) Server.

There are software dependencies for several Host Integration Server 2000 features. A complete list of these dependencies is available in the Host Integration Server 2000 documentation and Release Notes.

Some of the software dependencies required by Host Integration Server 2000 are software components that are shared across several Microsoft products and platforms. These shared components must be installed on the computer before Host Integration Server 2000 is installed.

Because these shared components are not under the control of the Host Integration Server 2000 development group, updated versions of these shared components should be obtained from the Microsoft Web site at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads.
