Activity 6.1: Identifying Components of Application Center Clusters

You’re a network administrator at Contoso Pharmaceuticals. The company, which provides services to physicians around the country, is implementing a Web site to provide online services to the clients. Because physicians must be able to access pharmaceutical information at any time, the Web site must be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You plan to achieve this availability by implementing Application Center clusters into your network. For security and maintenance reasons, you decide to implement COM+ application cluster on a tier separate from the Web cluster.

You create a diagram similar to the one shown in Figure 6.7 to map out the network topology.

Figure 6.7 - Application Center Web cluster and COM+ application cluster

  1. In the diagram above, label the following components: client, Internet, Web-tier cluster, COM+ cluster, NLB, and CLB.
  2. What are the different cluster types supported by Application Center?
  3. Which cluster type would you use to host Web sites and to support NLB and CLB?
