Quite often, some IT departments or specific employees obtain practically unlimited control over the information system and its components, which results in introducing software and hardware vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities might exist for quite a long time. Usually this happens because of lack of time, negligence, etc.

Disgruntled administrators of IT departments can also modify the configuration of network equipment, important servers, and other devices in order to do intentional damage. Intrusion detection systems are rather efficient tools (and sometimes the only one) that allow you to ensure control over employees and departments that have unlimited access to the information system of the organization.
