Mac OS X includes two powerful tools to search for information: the Find command and the Sherlock application. Find searches for files or folders on your disks, and Sherlock searches the Internet for information.
In either case, a search can be extremely simple or very sophisticated. For example, Find can simply search for a file by name, or it can search by a complex combination of over a dozen other attributes, such as date, size, and kind. Find can also search for text inside documents.
When it comes to searching the Internet, Sherlock can search one site or a group of related sites, such as popular Web search engines (About, Lycos, LookSmart, and so on), people-search sites, reference sites, auction sites, and many others.
This Chapter explains the uses of the Find command and Sherlock.
