Working with the Border Properties

The properties in the border properties group have overlapping functionality to some extent. Hence, the order in which the rules are specified is important. For example, in this example,

 BLOCKQUOTE {   border-color: red;   border-left: double;   color: black }

the border's color will be red, except for the left border (border-left), which will be black. This is because the border-left property sets the width, style, and color at one time on the left border. Because the color is not explicitly set in that property, the value of the color property is automatically picked up; in this case, black.
