Click the All Programs command (check out the multitude of applications available to you on your computer, many of which you might not even know you have).
Click the application you want to start for example, Microsoft Word from the Microsoft Office submenu.
The Word window opens with a blank document, and a Word button appears on the taskbar.
INTRODUCTION
You start Microsoft Office applications in the same way you do most other applications in Windows XP: using the Start menu. If you recently used a particular Office application, that application command might be visible on the first pane of the Start menu as well as in its normal location, in the All Programs submenu.
TIP
Using Desktop Shortcuts
Depending on your computer's setup, you might have a shortcut icon for various Office applications on your Windows desktop. If you do, you can double-click an application's shortcut icon to start the application.
TIP
Opening a File
Another way to start an application is to double-click an existing file that was created using that application for example, one in your My Documents folder. Windows will start the application and open the file you double-clicked.
