PC GAME CONTROLLERS

Saitek Cyborg evo Wireless

Here's a cool joystick controller, fully customizable and wireless, as well.

Saitek's Cyborg evo Wireless claims to be the world's only fully adjustable wireless stick, and that claim may be justified. For starters, you can customize both the head and the stick for either left- or right-hand play; there's also a three-way handle adjustment to make the controller fit all hand sizes. In addition, Saitek's software offers more advanced programmability of all the joystick's functions. I don't know of any other game controller that offers this type of physical and virtual customization.

As to the controller itself, it's wireless, of course, which means you can sit up to 30 feet away from your PC. The wireless receiver is actually a small dongle (about the size of a USB flash drive) that attaches to a USB port on your PC. When you move from one PC to another, the dongle slides into a slot on bottom of the controller, so it won't be easily lost.

Operationally, the controller features a rapid-fire trigger, 5 fire buttons, 2 shift buttons, 4 base buttons, an 8-way point-of-view hat switch, a lever throttle, and 3D twist for rudder control. This makes the control great for both action and flight games.

Feel-wise, there's a lot to like here. The Cyborg evo is a very sturdy stick, it doesn't feel cheap or plasticky, as some competitors do. Even the physical adjustments are heavy duty, such as the knobs (attached to worm gears) that tilt the stick left-to-right and front-to-rear. Comfort is achieved by an adjustable hand rest that flares out from the bottom of the stick.

Solid feel, extreme customability, and wireless operation. That's why the Cyborg evo Wireless is a Leo's Pick controller!

MonsterGecko PistolMouse FPS

My preferred controller for shooting games is MonsterGecko's PistolMouse. It's a stylish pistol controller with an 800 dpi high-resolution optical sensor built into the base, for high-precision performance. The trigger is heavy-duty aluminum, there's an oversized scroll wheel on the side, and best of all it looks and feels like a real handgun. When you want to excel at first person shooter games, this is the gun to get.

Zboard Modular Keyset

The problem with playing games on your PC is that the control keys are typically spread all across the keyboard. Wouldn't it be nice to design a keyboard with the appropriate keys for a given game all in one place? Well, that's what the Zboard Modular Keyset does; it turns your keyboard into a kind of high-tech Lego game, where you can design your own key layouts for different PC games. Just move this module here and that one there, and you have a whole new keyboard to play with; special predesigned keysets are available for the most popular games.

Logitech MOMO Racing Wheel

From Logitech comes a force-feedback racing wheel designed by the racing professionals at MOMO one of the world's leading designers of automotive accessories. The steering wheel includes two paddle shifters, just like the F1 drivers use, so you can shift without taking your hands off the wheel or you can use the manual shifter for precise sequential shifting. The advanced force feedback lets you feel every turn, slide, and bump, and the comfortable grip offers precise steering; the foot pedals are mounted on a large stable base with a unique carpet grip system.

ThrustMaster Enzo Ferrari Force Feedback Wheel

Ever want to trade in your Ford Escort for a Ferrari racer? Here's the next best thing, an exact replica of the steering wheel on the latest Enzo Ferrari. You get powerful force feedback effects, an 8-way D-pad, 9 action buttons, and progressive gas and brake control. The gearshift levers are mounted on the wheel itself, just like in the real car. It's a classy, cool, and high-performance racing wheel just like the big boys use.
