EIGRP was developed to be completely independent from routed protocols IP, Novell's IPX, and AppleTalk, for example and as such implemented a modular approach to supporting these routed protocols.
EIGRP's modular support provides for the following protocols:
AppleTalk (AT-EIGRP) EIGRP can redistribute routes learned from RTMP (Routing Table Maintenance Protocol).
Novell IPX (IPX-EIGRP) EIGRP can redistribute routes learned from Novell's proprietary RIP as well as SAP (Service Advertisement Protocol) and NLSP (Novell Link State Protocol).
IP (IP-EIGRP) EIGRP can redistribute routes learned from OSPF (Open Shortest Path First), RIP (Routing Information Protocol), IS-IS (Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System), EGP (Exterior Gateway Protocol), and BGP (Border Gateway Protocol).
