Desktop Printers


Mac OS X's desktop printers feature enables you to create an icon for a printer you use frequently. Then, when you want to print a document on that printer, simply drag the document icon onto the printer icon.

To create a desktop icon for a printer

1.

Open Printer Setup Utility and display the Printer list.

2.

Select the printer you want to create a desktop printer icon for (Figure 72).

3.

Choose Printers > Create Desktop Printer (Figure 5), or press .

4.

Use the Save As dialog that appears (Figure 73) to enter a name and choose a location for the desktop printer icon.

5.

Click Save. An alias for the printer appears in the location you specified (Figure 74).

Tip

  • Although Desktop is the default location in the Save As dialog (Figure 73), you can save a desktop printer anywhere on disk.


To print with a desktop printer

1.

Drag the icon for the document you want to print onto the printer icon (Figure 75).

2.

When you release the mouse button, the document is sent to the print queue and prints.

Tip

  • You can drag any number of document icons onto the printer icon. They will all be spooled to the printer.
