Setting Up a Master Page

Because you want the ads to appear as a series, they will all be similar in layout; only the content will be different in each ad. Instead of applying the same design elements to different pages, you'll use a master page that will contain the common elements. This is beneficial not only when creating the files, but also when making edits. For example, when the client asks for the logo to be made larger, you can make the change on the master page; all the other pages will update automatically.

Double-click on A-Master in the Pages palette to switch to that master page (see Figure 14.9). Start by dragging a horizontal guide to the 7.125-inch mark, which you will need later. Drag a second horizontal guide to the 10.75-inch mark, which will be the baseline for the logo (see Figure 14.10).

Place the Common Design Elements

Now that you have the guides in place, choose File, Place and import the Sunflowers logo from your Version Cue project. Use the Control palette to scale the logo by 50%, and position it so that it rests along the baseline you created, in the center of the page (see Figure 14.11). Now that you've completed the master page, switch back to page 1 of your document.
