Objective 4.1: Configure the User Environment

As a DST, you will be asked many questions from users regarding configuration of their desktops because this is where they spend most of their time. The taskbar and the Start menu are the interfaces to the Windows XP operating system. You should know how to customize settings so that your users are comfortable with finding and executing programs. You should also be able to configure settings for users who might have hearing or visual impairments and might require special accommodations to be configured, such as larger fonts, voice-activated menus, and visual warnings. The accessibility options available in Windows XP enable you to do just that.

To answer the questions in this objective, you should also know how to configure a computer to support multiple logon accounts with Fast User Switching so that users can change from one account to another without logging off. You should also know how to configure the taskbar and Start menus, configure and troubleshoot accessibility options, and troubleshoot problems that users might have with a mouse or other pointing device.
