This chapter has covered the multilanguage capabilities of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and SharePoint Server 2007, focusing on planning and maintenance issues revolving around hosting sites in multiple languages on a single SharePoint farm. The integration of Microsoft Content Management Server functions into SharePoint Server 2007 introduced a new Variation feature, which automatically creates content in multiple presentations (including languages) based on content created in a source site. This chapter covered the planning and design issues involved in implementing and maintaining a variation hierarchy.
Although SharePoint Server 2007 can create each variation target in a designated language, human translation of content is still required. This chapter covered the tools provided to help manage this manual translation process and to manage content for external translation service providers. Finally, this chapter addressed some of the planning and design considerations for using content deployment in both local deployments and geo-deployments.
