This chapter presented two angles for learning some of the fundamentals of this book. The first was an overview of the Microsoft .NET Framework for Java and J2EE developers; the second covered Java and J2EE for developers who come from a Microsoft programming background.

Consider these fundamentals a steppingstone for the rest of the book, rather than an exhaustive description of the way each of the two platforms and development environments works. The resources listed throughout this chapter will help if you want to research the topic further.
