GroupWise administrators are often unclear about which tools to use to fix a GroupWise problem. When a problem appears in the system address book in the GroupWise client, running the Mailbox/Library Maintenance or GroupWise check (GWCheck) will accomplish nothing. These are the wrong tools to use to fix GroupWise system address book/WPHOST.DB problems. Reviewing the discussion of GroupWise architecture from Part I for just a moment, there are two kinds of GroupWise databases:
Mailbox/library maintenance, or GWCheck, is strictly for fixing message store databases. The tool for fixing the GroupWise directory databases is called System Maintenance. As discussed in Chapter 7, "GroupWise Utilities and Diagnostics," you find this tool by choosing GroupWise Utilities from the Tools menu. Tip If your system is on multiple platforms, for example, NetWare and Linux, you need to take into consideration whether your filenames are in upper- or lowercase. On NetWare and the Windows platform, the case of the WPDOMAIN.DB and the WPHOST.DB does not really matter. On the Linux platform, the case of these files should always be lowercase. So after you have rebuilt one of these databases, make sure that the file is in lowercase format if it will be placed on a Linux server. |
