A number of areas that are often referred to as problem areas were rated by the respondents, in order to establish to what extend these problems are perceived or real. Areas of concern are:

  • Time (70 percent).

  • The management style of superiors (61 percent)

  • Sexism (60 percent)

  • The different roles women have (59 percent)

  • Personal and professional trade-offs (58 percent)

  • Training and re-skilling opportunities (54 percent)

  • Higher administrative workloads than male counterparts (53 percent)

  • Lack of childcare facilities at work (53 percent)

  • Family commitments (52 percent)

Of less concern are:

  • Having young children (47 percent)

  • Higher (general) workloads than males (46 percent)

  • Workplace flexibility (40 percent)

  • Academic commitments (34 percent)

  • Community commitments (24 percent)
