Introduction

Now that your text is entered into your document, adding graphical and multimedia elements will bring your document to a whole new level. In Microsoft Office Word 2003, you can insert many objects that give your document a finished look. When viewing graphic and multimedia objects, they are typically classified into 4 general types ”clip art, pictures, sound, and video.

Microsoft offers a wide array of copyright-free clip art that you can add into your Office programs. As you use clip art, you might want to organize it in the Clip Organizer for easy access in the future. Clip art isn't just pictures, you can also add video or sound clips, or even create your own, and store them in the Organizer. You can import your own clips into the Clip Organizer. For example, if you have a company logo that you plan to include in more than one document, add it to the Clip Organizer.

If you find that you've gone through and search all that Word has to offer, you can go online and access the additional clips that Microsoft provides on it's Office Online Web site. Search for additional clip art, pictures, movie, and sound clips. You can also insert your own digital photos or a photo from a scanner. If you need to adjust the pictures or other clips, you can do that through the Picture toolbar. Add brightness or contrast, crop a picture, change colors or set a transparent background.

WordArt is another feature that adds detail to your document. If you want to draw attention to a title or section header, you can apply some WordArt, adjust color or shadowing, and you've got a custom look. Unlike WordArt, a background or a watermark are graphical objects that sit "behind" the text. For instance, if you want to have a stamp across your document pages labeled CONFIDENTIAL, you would add a watermark.
