Problems with Patterns

graphics/troubleshooting_icon.jpg

I cannot get my custom patterns and textured fills to display. All I see are circles.

Since custom patterns and textured fills are PostScript, FreeHand will not display them on screen. They will, however, print just fine to a PostScript printer or to Acrobat Distiller. You can also export the pattern or fill to an EPS file. Likewise, your custom pattern or textured fill will not export properly to a TIFF or JPEG format.

Text Not Flowing

I cannot get the text to flow around an object, no matter how many times I try. What am I doing wrong?

FreeHand MX can be a memory hog. If you're like most graphics professionals, you will have several applications running in addition to FreeHand. When you try and flow text around an object (Text, Flow Around Selection) and it doesn't work, you're most likely running low on memory. Quitting FreeHand and reopening the file seems to resolve this issue.

Changing Text Color After Converting to Paths

In FreeHand 10 I could change the color of text after I had converted it to paths, but the only way I can do that in FreeHand MX is by ungrouping the text and filling in each letter one by one.

Once you've converted your text to paths, there are a couple of options to efficiently change the fill or stroke colors. Use the Subselect tool to select the objects you want to modify and then apply new fill or stroke attributes. Or, you could select the object (formerly text) with the Pointer tool. Double-click the Contents item in the Object panel and apply the color modifications.
