In regard to site management, the folks at Macromedia have empowered Fireworks users with the ability to manage Web sites directly through the program without having to launch Dreamweaver or a third-party FTP program. These new features not only give Fireworks some extra clout as a member of the MX family, they just make life downright easier.
Version Control
You can now open files in a site that Dreamweaver has enabled as Check In/Check Out. Previous versions of Fireworks would not allow you to open a file that the Dreamweaver Site Manager had marked as locked down. Now you can Check In or Check Out files directly from Fireworks without having to launch Dreamweaver to get its permission to work on your files.
Built-In FTP
Another new feature that will make your work more efficient is Fireworks' FTP capabilities. Rather than launching Dreamweaver to upload a modified graphic, you can now post the graphic directly to the Web server from Fireworks. You can also FTP a graphic from the server to your hard drive. The only catch is that you need to have the site defined in Dreamweaver MX 2004.
