Customizing Your Work Environment

You can customize the Captivate work environment to suit how you work.

You can change the size of the thumbnails if you find it hard to see some of the detail in them. You can also click the Splitter Bar to close the Tasks panel. The Splitter Bar is a great way of buying screen real estate when you need it because the application default is to have the thumbnails constantly visible. Another space saver is turning off the Main toolbar at the top of the Captivate window by selecting View > Main Toolbar. If you need even more room, press the F11 key to maximize the Captivate window (it will fill the screen). Press F11 again to return to the normal window.

There are also a couple of other features you can turn on or off, depending on how you work:

  • You can turn off the captions in the Main toolbar and have only the icons visible by selecting View > Captions on Toolbar.

  • If you don't need to be reminded constantly of where your movie is located, you can turn off the status bar at the bottom of the Captivate window by selecting View > Status Bar.

  • If you don't need to see your movie information or slide tasks in the Storyboard View panel, click the down arrow to close that area. Clicking Slide Tasks or Movie Information will also close the Slide Tasks and Movie Information areas.

  • If there are toolbars in the Edit View panel that you rarely use, turn them off by selecting the View menu. Open toolbars have check marks beside them.
