Saving Your Work as a Published Song

Imagine that you have worked many hours on a song for which you imported several of your own samples (samples that were not included with Reason), you save the song and take it to your buddy's house (he also has Reason). You load up Reason on your friend's machine and open your song, but your samples are not there! That's because when you save a song in Reason, the samples that you used are not saved with the song file. The song file will save only a reference pointing to where the samples are on your hard disk, and because they are not on your buddy's hard disk, Reason will load blank samples. There is a way to get around thissave your work as a published song. A published song will save all the samples and song information into one file so that when it's opened in Reason on any machine, all the samples will be loaded along with the song.

NOTE

A published song lets people share their songs, whether on CD-R or posted on the Internet. A published song also provides your song with a certain amount of protection. Published songs, when opened in Reason, cannot be saved; Copy and Paste are disabled, and the song cannot be exported to a stereo audio file. Published songs essentially can be played back only in Reason.

To save your work as a published song:

When saving your work as a published song, try to keep in mind how many samples you have imported. If you are using a large number of samples, the file size of the published song can be quite large.
