Chapter 10 . CV and Gate Control

There's no doubt that Reason is an impressive tool for creative music-makingwith its unlimited sound modules, digital samplers, loop players, 14-channel mixers, and great selection of effects. One of Reason's most exciting capabilities is its flexibility in routing. You learned audio routing techniques in Chapter 8; in this chapter you will dive into the use and routing of CV control. CV stands for controlled voltage , which is a way for analog devices to control other analog devices. Reason re-creates the capabilities of CV digitally to allow one device in the rack to control another. I'll also cover gate control, which allows devices to trigger notes or samples on other devices. In this chapter, you'll learn how to:

Share parameters among two or more devices.

Control effect parameters from sound modules.

Expand the CV routing possibilities with the Spider CV Merger & Splitter.

Use a gate-equipped device to trigger notes on sound modules.
