Aims of this chapter

People matter. They matter especially in project management, as we shall see. This chapter is about managing the people side of projects, particularly the administration of people managing people is the central task of management generally, but the administration of people is vital to morale and getting the job done. Administration can be boring at times, but that does not mean it is unimportant. Just try not paying employees and see how long they hang around if you want to test that claim. The aims of this chapter are to:

  • show why HR management is important in project management;

  • describe what it is;

  • enable you to plan and manage the four HR management processes;

  • identify the key tensions in HR management.
